Tip
Regularly check the dipstick seal (O-ring). A dried-out, damaged, or hardened O-ring can cause contamination of the transmission oil.
In older Mercedes models, the plastic handle or the dipstick locking mechanism may also become brittle and break due to aging. Replace a damaged or poorly sealing dipstick in a timely manner to prevent oil leakage, contamination of the transmission oil, and problems checking the oil level.
After installation, always check that the dipstick is fully seated in the filler tube and seals properly. A properly sealing dipstick prevents dirt and moisture from entering the automatic transmission.
