Important

Before installation, always check that the prescribed heat number and spark plug type correspond to the specifications of the engine in question. Various compression ratios, ignition systems, and versions have been used within the mentioned Mercedes engine series. Consequently, the prescribed spark plug type may differ by year of manufacture, engine code, and version.

Tip

Always check the electrode gap of each spark plug before installation.

• For various older Mercedes engines, an electrode gap of 0.7 mm is prescribed.
• For many later versions, an electrode gap of 0.8 mm may be prescribed.

Although new spark plugs are usually supplied ready for installation, the electrode gap may deviate due to transport or improper handling. Therefore, check each spark plug with a feeler gauge before installation and carefully adjust the gap if necessary.

Also carefully inspect new spark plugs for transport or fall damage before installation. A dent or damage to the packaging may indicate that the spark plug has been hit hard. As a result, the ceramic insulation part may contain invisible hairline cracks.
